Lily Zhang does not disappoint. Touted as one of Team USA’s brightest stars heading into the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, the 2012 Olympian successfully captured the bronze medal in women’s singles table tennis Wednesday morning. Zhang had already been receiving attention as the only American to compete at an Olympic Games prior to the Youth Olympic Games, and now she has made history again as the first American to win a table tennis medal at either the Olympic Games or the Youth Olympic Games.

Lily Zhang of USA reached the semi-finals of the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, before a 4-1 defeat by number one seed Duo Hoi Kem of Hong Kong. (11-1, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-6). In the other semi-final match, Liu Gaoyang of China overcame Japan’s Miyu Kato in front of 4,000 spectators at Wutaishan Gymnasium. The bronze medal match between Lily Zhang and Miyu Kato is scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, Aug. 20th; and the gold medal match between Duo Hoi Kem and Liu Gaoyang is scheduled for 11:30am.
USA’s star, Lily Zhang, had outstanding wins in the USA matches against the top teams in the world in the Championship Division of the World Table Tennis Championships in Tokyo in May, 2014. Lily is USA’s best hope for winning an Olympic Medal in Table Tennis. She is on her way to Nanjing, China for the Youth Olympic Games.

Lily Zhang won the 2013, ITTF-North American Cup in Westchester NY. Her ICC/STIGA Team mate, Timothy Wang was runner-up to Andre Ho from Canada. Both Lily and Timothy continue to show consistent winning results in major events. Credit goes to these two talented players and their dedication to training, as-well-as to their coaches and to the tremendous support they all receive from the ICC/STIGA Elite Team.
Congratulations to Timothy Wang and Lily Zhang for their respective number 1 finishes at the US Team Trials in San Jose, CA. In her charge to the number one spot on the Women’s Team, Lily did not loss a single match, while Timothy finished as number one on the Men’s Team with just one match loss! With these impressive finishes the two US National Champions continue to show why they deserve to be at the top of US table tennis.
Congratulations to Zhou Xin who has been recognized by the USATT as its 2012 National Coach of the Year. Zhou coaches out of the ICC club and works with Lily Zhang and Timothy Wang among the many other oustanding players from that nationally recognized program.

The second annual JUIC International Junior Championship is scheduled for September 14 to 16 at ICC Table Tennis Club in Milpitas, CA. The tournament is one of the few events in the U.S. that offers players the chance to compete with internationally ranked juniors. Registration is open now. Come join the fun!
